How to sell a MacBook or laptop in Batumi for a good price
What affects the price of a used MacBook or laptop, how to prepare it for sale, and where it sells faster: a listing or a buyback service.
Laptops lose value more slowly than phones, especially Apple-silicon MacBooks. Here's how to get a fair price for yours.
What affects a MacBook's price
- Chip: M1, M2, M3, M4; the newer, the more valuable. Intel models lose value fast because they no longer get new macOS versions.
- Memory and storage: 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB+ SSD noticeably raise the price.
- Battery cycles: About This Mac → System Report → Power. Under 300 cycles is a plus.
- Screen: spots, lines, peeling anti-glare coating on older models are minuses.
- Keyboard and body: dents, sticky keys.
What affects a regular laptop's price
- processor and graphics (gaming laptops are valued higher);
- SSD rather than HDD;
- the condition of the battery, hinges and screen;
- the charger is a must.
Preparing it for sale
- Back up (Time Machine or the cloud).
- Sign out of your Apple ID and turn off Find My Mac; otherwise Activation Lock stays on.
- Erase the Mac: System Settings → General → Transfer or Reset → "Erase All Content and Settings" (on Apple-silicon or T2 Macs).
- On a Windows laptop: sign out of accounts and reset the system, removing all data.
- Clean the body and keyboard.
A faulty laptop sells too
After a spill, with a cracked display, not turning on: such laptops are bought for parts or repair. Sometimes it pays to repair first; for example, a clean or a new battery costs little but noticeably raises the sale price.
Listing or buyback
A listing gets you the most if the laptop is in excellent condition and you can wait. A buyback means money straight away, no meeting strangers, and faulty machines are welcome.
