How much is a used iPhone worth: what the resale price depends on
What affects the price of a used iPhone: model, storage, battery, replaced parts, scratches and accessories. How to estimate your phone's value in advance.
Two iPhone 13s that look the same can be worth very different amounts. Here's what a buyer looks at and how to estimate your phone in advance.
The basics: model and storage
This is the foundation. Newer models and more storage cost more. Pro models hold their value better. Older models that no longer get iOS updates lose value fast.
Screen condition
- No scratches: top price.
- Light scratches: a small discount.
- Cracks, lines, spots: the phone is valued "for repair", minus the cost of a new screen.
- Non-original screen (replaced before): a lower price, as buyers know these differ from factory screens.
Battery
Open Settings → Battery → Battery Health. 85% or more adds value. Below 80% or "Service" means the buyer will factor in a battery replacement. See battery health at 80%.
Replaced parts
On newer iPhones, Settings → General → About has a Parts and Service History section. Non-genuine parts listed there lower the price.
Does everything work
Buyers check Face ID, all cameras and the flash, microphones and speakers, network and Wi-Fi, charging, buttons and vibration. A broken Face ID is a significant discount.
Body
Dents in the frame, a cracked back, chips: every detail affects the price.
Box and documents
The box, charger and receipt add a little to the price and to trust.
What no one buys
- Phones locked to someone else's Apple ID (iCloud Lock).
- Phones reported stolen or blocked by a carrier.
How to estimate in advance
- Find ss.ge listings for your model and storage, ignoring the most and least expensive.
- Subtract for defects.
- Or just send us photos: we'll give you a free, no-obligation quote.
